If you're interested in Apple's next smartphone, the iPhone 17 is already providing some exciting insights. Even before the official launch in September, more leaks and analyst reports are emerging.
The iPhone 17 base model appears to be a rather mild upgrade over its predecessor, the iPhone 16. While there's no major revolution, improvements are being made in the right places. Apple is testing new colors, the display is set to be larger and faster, and there are also improvements to the camera. Technically, much remains the same, but the overall package is becoming more interesting.
New colors in test: purple and green
According to leaker Majin Bu, Apple is currently testing two new color variants for the base iPhone 17: purple and green. Currently, it looks like only one of these colors will ultimately be included in the final product lineup. Majin Bu believes purple is more likely. This would be a fresh addition to the iPhone 16's current colors: ultramarine, teal, pink, white, and black.
Design remains, display gets bigger
According to current information, the iPhone 17 will have barely any visual differences from the iPhone 16. The design remains essentially the same. However, the display is expected to grow slightly, from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches. This small change means more screen space for you without significantly increasing the size of the device.
The 120 Hz display comes
One of the most important innovations could be the 120 Hz display. This would be a significant improvement over the 60 Hz panel in the iPhone 16. A higher refresh rate ensures smoother scrolling, better video playback, and a generally smoother user experience. Many users have been requesting this feature for years and it could now finally arrive.
Front camera with higher resolution
The selfie camera is also being upgraded. Instead of the previous 12 megapixels on the iPhone 16, the iPhone 17 will have a 24 megapixel front camera. This will give you sharper selfies, better video quality, and clearer FaceTime calls. This is a definite plus, especially for social media and video calls.
Technology under the hood: A18 chip and 8 GB RAM
The processor will most likely be the A18 chip, which is already used in the iPhone 16. It will be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm N3E process. According to analyst Jeff Pu, the RAM will also remain at 8 GB. This means you get the same performance as the iPhone 16, but with display and camera upgrades.
Why the iPhone 17 is worth a look
If you're currently considering buying a new iPhone, it's worth waiting for the iPhone 17. While it's not a complete game-changer, the upgrade seems consistent. The larger display, the potential 120 Hz technology, and the improved front camera make the base model more attractive to many users. The prospect of a new color like purple could also make the iPhone 17 interesting. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 in September, and more details are likely to emerge by then.
