The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are at the center of the rumor mill as they are said to feature more updated display technologies. Industry reports suggest that Apple plans to introduce the coveted Always-On and 120Hz ProMotion displays to its base iPhone models as well. These potential innovations promise an even smoother and more responsive user experience for Apple enthusiasts worldwide.
The evolution of iPhone displays has always demonstrated innovation and technological excellence. Since introducing the 120Hz ProMotion display with the iPad Pro in 2017, Apple has continuously worked to improve the user experience. Now it seems that another long-awaited development is on the way that could make the iPhone 17 a truly outstanding device.
Display innovations for the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus: ProMotion and Always-On technology in focus
According to a report from The Elec, both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus will feature OLED displays based on LPTO panels. These panels not only promise outstanding image quality but also allow for adjustable refresh rates up to 120 Hz, known as ProMotion. One of the most exciting speculations is the introduction of always-on displays, which, thanks to the flexibility of LPTO panels, can also be reduced to a minimum refresh rate of just 1 Hz when needed.
Implementation challenges: Apple's collaboration with BOE
However, the implementation of these plans reportedly depends on Apple's display manufacturer, BOE. While BOE has already supplied LTPO screens to other manufacturers, the collaboration with Apple is still on shaky ground. There is speculation that BOE may not be ready for production of the iPhone 17 in time. Despite these challenges, there is still a possibility that BOE could be able to meet the tech giant's requirements with additional training and support from Apple. Looking for new accessories?
