The iPhone 16 is already causing a stir in the tech world. According to rumors, the 2024 Apple smartphone will have a rear camera arrangement reminiscent of the iPhone 12 design. In particular, the cheaper iPhone 16 is said to have a vertical camera arrangement on the back, according to a well-known Twitter account. This design change could also apply to the iPhone 16 Plus.

The rumor mill around the iPhone 16 simmers and the latest speculation about the design of the rear camera has raised eyebrows. The iPhone 16 may return to a vertical camera layout that was last seen on the iPhone 12.

This change would not only have an aesthetic impact but could also make the device instantly recognizable as the latest model. Combined with other design aspects such as the Dynamic Island and the USB-C port, the iPhone 16 could offer an impressive upgrade. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini prompted Apple to switch to a diagonal camera lens arrangement on the back.

This design was also carried over to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. It is expected that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus later this year will continue to rely on this diagonal layout. However, the iPhone 16 would reportedly return to a vertical layout.

The reasons for this change are still unclear. When Apple introduced the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, the company simply emphasized that the new rear camera design with diagonally arranged lenses would enable an advanced dual-camera system. Although the exact motivations for the renewed design change on the iPhone 16 are unclear, Apple appears to be committed to continually improving and updating the look of its devices. It is important to note that the iPhone 16 is expected to be announced in September 2024. So the design could still change by then. Major changes are also expected for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which will reportedly feature larger screens of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively. However, these models will probably continue to rely on a rear camera system with three lenses, so the vertical arrangement would not apply. (Photo by Unsplash / Vựa Táo)
