iPhone 14 Pro to receive major camera upgrade

Paris, France - Sep 25, 2021: Unboxing close up of the new triple camera on the new iPhone 13 Pro Max Sierra Blue new color on tech background hero object in new thin cardboard box purple color cast

The camera bump on the back of the new "iPhone 14 Pro" and "iPhone 14 Pro Max" will be larger to accommodate the significantly larger image sensor. This is what an analyst now claims.

A few days ago allegedly leaked schemes indicated for Apple's iPhone 14 Pro range suggests that the controversial camera bump on the back is likely to remain for another year, despite claims otherwise. Deciding why the bump will remain and not go away could have something to do with the other rumors of camera changes. It is believed that Apple is moving from 12-megapixel camera sensors to 48-megapixel versions, which would be a major upgrade for the smartphone. Because larger sensors are used, it means that the design has to take into account the space needed inside the device. In a Tweet TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo commented on the plans and confirmed that the main reason for the larger camera bump on the iPhone 14 Pro line is to “upgrade the wide camera to 48MP.”

iPhone 14 Pro models: The tried and tested hump will stay with us for a while

The main reason for the larger and more prominent rear camera on the 14 Pro/Pro Max is the upgrade of the wide-angle camera to 48MP (compared to the 12MP on the 13 Pro/Pro Max). The diagonal of the 48MP CIS becomes 25-35% larger, and the height of the 48MP 7P lens becomes 5-10% larger.

According to Kuo, the diagonal of the high-resolution image sensor will be between 25% and 35% larger than the 12-megapixel version. The diagonal is not the only change, as the 7-piece (7P) lens for the sensor will also grow by 5 to 10 %. With an extremely small device, increasing the size of the imaging components while reducing the bump is a big challenge. It makes sense for Apple engineers to keep the tried-and-tested bump for a while longer so that the cameras can be improved without affecting the other components too much.
