According to unconfirmed specs shared on Chinese social media site Weibo, the iPhone 14 Pro could deliver more detailed images thanks to a significantly larger sensor and smaller pixels.
A recent article by accounts "Fishing 8" on Weibo lists a large number of technical specifications for the iPhone 14 Pro's camera. In line with numerous rumors about the iPhone 14 Pro's wide-angle camera from last year, the account claims that the iPhone 14 Pro will have a 48 MP camera. Due to the higher megapixel count, the pixels will be smaller, reportedly measuring 1.22 µm.
Sensor could come from Sony
This is a reduction of 0.68 µm compared to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The sensor is believed to be from Sony, like the one in the iPhone 13 Pro. Despite the changed pixel size, the iPhone 14 Pro will reportedly feature the same Dual Pixel Auto Focus (DPAF) system that Apple markets as "Focus Pixels," which the iPhone has offered since the iPhone 6 in 2014, as well as the same ability to record 16:9 HDR video at up to 60 frames per second. The device's sensor is said to be 1/1.3-inch in size. This is 21.2 percent larger than the 1/1.65-inch sensor of the wide-angle camera in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
iPhone 14 Pro could take mobile camera photography to a new level
This sensor enlargement requires a larger lens to capture more light, resulting in a significantly larger rear camera field. The size of the 1/1.3-inch sensor is equivalent to Samsung's 50 MP GN1 sensor used in the Google Pixel 6. Overall, the information suggests that the iPhone 14 Pro will offer larger, higher-resolution images with finer details, albeit at the risk of poorer low-light performance and images that are more prone to noise. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously stated that he believes the camera quality of the iPhone 14 Pro models "will take phone camera photography to a new level."
