Apple will most likely unveil the iPhone 13 series next month. Now a report has surfaced discussing a possible price increase.
A new DigiTimes report According to reports, TSMC plans to increase the costs of its chip production, affecting several customers, including Apple. TSMC reportedly plans to increase the costs of its "advanced and mature processor technologies by up to 20%." The new changes are expected to take effect in January.
TSMC has reportedly notified customers of price increases of up to 20% for its advanced and mature processor technologies, with the new prices to take effect from January 2022. The price adjustments will also apply to orders to be fulfilled from December. For TSMC's advanced sub-7nm processor technologies, prices will increase by 3-10%, the sources said. Apple, TSMC's largest customer, whose orders account for more than 20% of the foundry's total wafer sales, will see a price increase of 3-5%.
iPhone 13 could get new camera features
To offset the cost increase, Apple plans to increase prices for the upcoming iPhone 13 series, according to the report, to "mitigate the impact of rising costs on profitability." Apple is preparing several improvements for the iPhone 13 this year, including features specifically designed for professional photographers and videographers. Specifically, the two Pro models are expected to support ProRes video and Portrait mode video. Now, some observers believe Apple could justify a price increase in the premium segment with precisely these two features. Whether this will ultimately happen remains to be seen, of course—but it's not out of the question. (Photo by MediaWhalestock / Bigstockphoto)
