Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that there will be a second AR headset from Apple in 2025. The device will be available in both a more powerful and a more affordable version.
Kuo has once again repeated his recent prediction that the first Apple AR headset will be delayed until early 2023. At the same time, he already has the first details about the successor. In his report Kuo has recorded information about both the first and second generation of Apple AR headsets.
The second generation of Apple AR/MR could have high-end and more affordable models to launch in 1H25.
He also predicts that “thanks to Apple’s AR/MR product segmentation strategy and second-generation ecosystem,” sales could reach 10 million “as early as 2025 or 2026.”
Apple AR headset: First generation could cost $3,000
For the first-generation headset, Kuo says the pancake lens is the "most important optical component, directly impacting the visual experience and form factor design." The first headset will be equipped with two such pancake modules, "one for each eye," which he believes will be "a new growth driver for Apple's optical supply chain." According to Kuo, Genius will be the primary supplier of the pancake lenses, with Young Optics also producing some. He expects the same companies to supply lenses for the second-generation headset. Kuo didn't provide a specific price, only saying that the second generation will be "more affordable." However, previous reports claimed that the first headset would cost around $3,000.
