The British tabloid Daily Star reportedthat Apple is considering paying $6.9 billion for Premier League football club Manchester United. It is one of the league's most famous teams and the place where David Beckham rose to fame. According to the newspaper, the current owners are the Glazers. The Glazers reportedly originally wanted $9.9 billion for the team but have decided to sell to the highest bidder. Now, the newspaper claims that Apple is one of the companies looking to discuss a possible deal to acquire the team. Reportedly, Tim Cook is keen to explore the possibilities that owning Manchester United would bring for Apple. It is said that he is in talks with the banks that will oversee the sale. The Daily Star further reports that Apple "could" finance the construction of a new stadium.
Will Manchester United join Apple's portfolio?
Manchester United's current stadium, Old Trafford, is in need of renovation and the owners have been wavering for some time between repairs and restoration or a completely new build. Neither Apple nor the owners of Manchester United have commented on the matter and the Daily Star does not provide any sources or names. The whole thing should therefore be viewed with skepticism.
