Although the iPad Pro lineup has undergone some minor revisions recently, the design of the current generation has remained largely unchanged since its launch in 2018. However, a new report suggests that could soon change, with Apple planning a "major iPad Pro overhaul" for next year.
In the latest edition of his newsletter “Power On” reported Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicts that this year will be an "easy year" for the iPad lineup. Gurman says "nothing noteworthy" is expected for the iPad Pro. He also says "no major updates" are expected for the entry-level iPad, the iPad mini, and the iPad Air. Looking ahead to 2024, however, things are getting more exciting. Gurman reports that Apple is preparing a "major update to the iPad Pro" that could be released in the spring. This revision is expected to feature an "updated design" and, for the first time, an upgrade to OLED displays.
I don't think there will be any major updates to the entry-level iPad mini or Air in 2023. The iPad Pro certainly won't get any notable updates this year. Instead, there will be a major overhaul of the iPad Pro next spring, with an updated design and, for the first time, OLED screens.
There have been a few rumors lately about what this new iPad Pro might look like. Reports suggest that Apple could update the design of the iPad Pro and use a glass back instead of the current aluminum unibody design.
iPad Pro to receive a major update in 2024
Apple has also considered equipping the iPad Pro with MagSafe charging technology, similar to the MagSafe technology on the iPhone. It's also not the first time we've heard of Apple's goal of switching the iPad Pro to OLED displays next year. Analyst Ross Young recently reported that the first iPad Pro with an OLED display will launch in 2024, along with a MacBook Air with an OLED display. There are also reports that Apple is considering expanding the iPad lineup to include larger screens such as 14 or even 16 inches. Whether these new screen sizes will be introduced as part of the iPad Pro revamp is unclear. The closer Apple gets to the planned launch of the new iPad Pro in spring 2024, the more leaks will emerge. So the next few months should remain exciting. (Image: Apple)
