To this day, many fans are still waiting in vain. Apple's charging mat is supposed to be able to charge several devices at the same time - AirPower was introduced in September 2017. Now the time has finally come.

In September last year, AirPower disappeared almost completely from Apple's homepage - without comment. Many observers interpreted this as the quiet end of the charging station. Shortly afterwards, a report with insider information appeared. According to this, Apple had two problems with the charging mat. The first major problem was the overheating of the Qi mat. This was said to be so severe that even the connection between the device and the charging station was disrupted. Another problem lay in the arrangement, because the installed power coils were said to have been divided into three equal groups. Each of the coils is a different size. Due to a lack of space, this is said to have led to overlapping one another, which is one of the reasons for this severe overheating.

Apple has done it

Now Apple is said to have solved the problem and is close to mass production. ChargeLabs has published a WeChat conversation on the short message service Twitter, among other things. According to this, the Chinese contract manufacturer Luxshare Precision writes that production has started.

Pegatron will also be there. The Taiwanese supplier has been mentioned as a possible partner several times in the past - mass production of AirPower is set to start on January 21st. Star analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also believes that Apple will release its charging mat in the first quarter of 2019. The new charging case for the AirPods is also set to be launched - according to Kuo. The AirPower charging mat is now said to have 22 coils distributed in three layers - according to suppliers, these are said to have been installed in an 8-7-7 formation. This means that the user is free to place the device in any position during charging - there is no need to stick to a specific zone. The AirPower charging station allows the iPhone, Apple Watch and the AirPods charging case to be charged at the same time.
