Airpower was introduced almost a year ago – but since the presentation, the charging mat has not been discussed any further.
With Airpower it should be possible to charge the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. Apple wants to offer an additional charging case that supports wireless charging. This way the current AirPods generation can also benefit from Airpower.
Now the Chinese website Chongdiantou is reporting new information about the upcoming case. The source claims that the new charging case not only supports Airpower. Apple is said to have installed the universal Qi standard here. This means that the AirPods are compatible with any other certified Qi charging station.
Availability and price of the new charging case
The new charging case will also be available to purchase separately. The iGroup will offer the case for the first generation of AirPods as an optional accessory. Apple did not say a word about the price. However, there is of course speculation - the new charging case is said to cost 70 euros.
Apple Watch does not participate
The Apple Watch is an exception here. After Apple introduced the Qi standard modified, charging is currently only possible with the magnetic cable or products with MFI certification. It remains to be seen whether the next generation of Apple Watch will also be so limited. Many users would certainly be happy about an Airpower alternative.
