Apple released the fifth beta of tvOS 14.5 this evening, making some small but interesting changes. Among other things, the company renamed the "Siri Remote."
As the US blog MacRumors reported, Apple has replaced the name "Siri Remote" with "Apple TV Remote" throughout the operating system in the fifth beta of tvOS 14.5. As a reminder, the "Siri Remote" we know today has always been called "Apple TV Remote" in countries where Siri functionality isn't available on Apple TV. However, Apple has now adopted the name in countries where Siri functionality is available.
Apple TV 6: Will the new remote be introduced as the “Apple TV Remote”?
The reasons for this are currently unknown. The company may want to have a consistent name worldwide. However, the change could also be related to a new Apple TV, whose remote control might be introduced as the "Apple TV Remote." We've read rumors several times that a new Apple TV is on the horizon. As part of the update, the included remote control is also expected to be redesigned, and reportedly will have a "Find My" function. Therefore, the change in tvOS 14.5 could be related to this.
tvOS 14.5: Apple optimizes refresh rates
Be that as it may, Apple has also renamed the "Home button" under the "Remotes and Devices" section to "TV button." The function itself, however, remains the same. Previous tvOS 14.5 beta versions introduced support for the latest PlayStation and Xbox controllers and optimized the refresh rate options. The options are now 29.97Hz and 59.94Hz, instead of the previous 30Hz/60Hz. The new Apple TV update is expected to roll out with iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, watchOS 7.4, and macOS Big Sur 11.3 sometime in April. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
