Niantic is working with Hasbro and Tomy on “Transformers: Heavy Metal,” a game that uses augmented reality (AR) to bring the Autobots into a real-life environment – on the iPhone.
In "Transformers: Heavy Metal," the next game from Niantic, players must work together with Autobot characters like Bumblebee to complete tasks. In addition to Hasbro and Tomy, Niantic is also working with Seattle-based "Very Very Spaceship" as a development studio. While little is known about the game itself, the title is described as a "real-world mobile game." Accordingly, it will be in the same category as "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite" and "Pokemon Go." In both titles, players must, among other things, visit specific locations.
“Transformers: Heavy Metal”: Niantic accepts pre-registrations
There are also AR elements where they interact with virtual characters and scenes in a real view. In the press release explained executive producer Phil Hong:
When we were thinking about franchises that would be incredible to bring to life in AR, Transformers was a no-brainer. This will be a Transformers game that is different from all the others.
A so-called soft launch of the game will take place in “select countries soon” while a global launch is planned for the end of 2021. Those who want to register in advance can do so on the official website make. (Image: Niantic)
