The most popular card in Germany – the Girocard – will be usable with Apple Pay this summer. With Apple Pay and your Sparkasse card (debit card), you can pay contactless and on the go at hundreds of thousands of terminals in shops in Germany.
The credit institution will be the first to make the Girocard compatible with Apple Pay in addition to credit cards. The requirements for using this option include:
- An Apple Pay-enabled device
- An Apple ID
- The Sparkasse app (latest version)
- A Sparkasse account with a Sparkasse card (debit card)
- Activation for online banking (using the electronic mailbox and pushTAN or chipTAN procedure)

It is not currently known when exactly the launch will take place. However, it should be ready by the end of August. So interested parties will have to be patient a little longer. (Image: Finanz Informatik / Sparkasse)
