Netflix was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997 in Los Gatos, California and initially operated as an online video store that shipped films on DVD and Blu-ray.
In 2007, Netflix entered the video-on-demand business and made content available to its subscribers via streaming. In June 2018, Netflix had 130 million subscribers worldwide. Now the popular streaming service has increased its prices. Overall, package prices are increasing by up to 18 percent. The price increase initially only applies to new customers in the USA. Existing customers will only have to pay more in the coming quarter. The basic tariff has been increased from 8 to 9 US dollars per month. The HD stream subscription will now cost 13 US dollars. Anyone who books the Ultra HD package will have to pay 16 US dollars per month.
The company often experiments with higher prices to test the customers' pain threshold - even here. The price increase is therefore also expected in Germany - it remains unclear when this will be the case.
