macOS Monterey: Apple fixes an update problem

Saint-Petersburg, Russia - March 3, 2021: handsome guy, young man freelancer is working on his laptop computer Apple MacBook Pro or Air at home on sofa or couch. Freelance distant job, work concept.

Apple fixed an issue that could cause some Intel-based Mac models with the T2 chip to crash after installing macOS Monterey.

Apple says it has identified and fixed an issue with the T2 security chip firmware that prevented “a very small number of users” from starting their Macs after updating to macOS Monterey. In a Explanation to Rene Ritchie, Apple says the updated firmware is now included in existing macOS updates. Cupertino advises users affected by the issue to contact Apple Support. Earlier this week, it was reported that macOS Monterey stopped responding on some Intel-based Macs after the update.

macOS Monterey: M1 devices were not affected

The problem seemed to be related to the T2 security chip on Intel-based Macs, which controls features like Touch ID. Mac models equipped with Apple's M1 were not affected by this issue because they do not have a T2 chip. However, any firmware update carries a certain risk and the problem can be fixed using Apple's configuration utility if it arises. In addition to the boot problem, a few users have also complained about memory leaks after updating to macOS Monterey, but Apple has not commented on this. (Photo by Dorieugene / Bigstockphoto)
