At the beginning of the year, TV manufacturer LG promised that it would offer AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support on older devices in addition to the Apple TV app. But last week a statement was made that has now been corrected.

With AirPlay 2, users can stream videos, music, podcasts and more directly from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to a compatible LG Smart TV device without the need for an Apple TV. With HomeKit support, the Devices can even be controlled via the Home app or optionally via Siri. When it was announced that LG TVs from 2018 would also receive AirPlay 2 & HomeKit, the fans were extremely happy. Specifically, this would affect the LCD models with “SK” or “UK” in the name and all OLED models with “B8” to “Z8” in the name. The introduction of the function is planned for the end of the year. But last week LG announced that such support was not planned for 2018 TVs. The anger over this news was huge. Now the turnaround. Today's announcement was also made via the official Twitter account of LG UK. In it is called it:

Was the social media team out of touch?

Customers around the world can now enjoy the Apple TV app on LG 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs, with UHD TV models to follow. LG's 2018 TVs will include support for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit later this year. More details will be announced when these features are available.

As a result, last week's tweet was completely removed. It remains to be seen whether the company actually intended to remove the feature or whether the social media team simply had no information about it. However, one fact is that anyone who has one of the 2018 LG TVs mentioned above can look forward to AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. The launch is scheduled to take place this year - although the exact date is not known. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
