Apple released the third preview of iOS 15.1 on Wednesday evening, adding ProRes for the iPhone 13 Pro models. The previously promised "Auto Macro" switch was also integrated.
In addition to native support for ProRes video recording, the third iOS 15.1 beta also offers a new switch to disable Auto Macro in the Camera app. With iOS 15 on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, the device's camera switches automatically into macro mode as soon as the user gets close to a subject. This can result in an annoying animation in the camera app when the iPhone changes lenses. In some cases, you want to avoid this, which is why a switch is a pretty good idea.
iPhone 13 Pro: The “Auto Macro” switch is coming
In response to the criticism, Apple has promised to introduce a software option to disable automatic macro mode. iOS 15.1 should be the first to do so. If you click on "Camera" in Settings, you'll see a new switch for "Auto Macro." When enabled, this feature "automatically switches to the ultra-wide camera for macro photos and videos." If the auto function is disabled, you can manually activate macro mode by setting the camera to 0.5x, moving closer to your subject, and focusing on it. Don't have an iPhone 13 yet?
