iPhone 13 Pro: GeekBench results confirm better graphics performance

After the iPhone 13 announcement, Apple mentioned that the two Pro models have a more powerful graphics processor, which the two cheaper devices do not - even though the A15 Bionic chip is installed in all four models. Now a GeekBench result has emerged that confirms Apple's information.

As MacRumors reported, a person with access to an iPhone 13 Pro ran a Geekbench test, a benchmark tool for comparing the performance of smartphones and other devices. The "iPhone 14.2" (the iPhone 13 Pro's internal identifier) scored 14,216 points in the Metal tests, which specifically measure graphics performance. As a reminder, the iPhone 12 Pro's GPU scores about 9,123 points in the same Metal tests. This means that the GPU in the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 Pro models is about 551 TP5T more powerful than the GPU in the iPhone 12 Pro models.

iPhone 13 Pro: ProRes video codecs require additional performance

Unfortunately, no benchmark has been run on the two cheaper models yet, so we don't have any data on that yet. As we've already noted, the GPU of the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 has four cores. The A15 Bionic chip in the Pro models, on the other hand, has an additional core, so the GPU has five cores in total. The additional performance of this year's Pro versions is likely related to support for the ProRes video codec, which puts a lot of strain on the GPU. (Image: Apple)
