The heart of the new iPad Pro 2020 is the A12Z Bionic Chip. But what if it isn't that new? In this case, unfortunately, that's the case. Now it's official - the A12Z Bionic Chip is actually called the A12X Bionic Chip.
While the iPad Pro 2018 uses the A12X Bionic chip with seven cores, the iPad Pro 2020 has the A12Z Bionic chip with eight cores. But the chips are identical. The eighth core was already present in 2018, but it was deactivated by Apple. What was still a suspicion a few weeks ago has now been finally confirmed thanks to a floor plan analysis. Our analysis confirms that the Apple A12Z GPU chip found in the iPadPro (model A2068) is the same as its predecessor, the A12X. A report on our findings is in progress and will be available as part of TechInsights' #Logic subscription.
