The latest version of Apple's operating system, iOS 18, brings a number of notable changes and improvements, especially in the area of battery health settings and charging features. One of the most interesting new features is the ability to warn you when you're using a slow iPhone charger.

In today's fast-paced world, it's crucial that our devices charge quickly and efficiently. A slow charger can not only be frustrating but can also impact your iPhone's battery life. Apple has recognized this and introduced several new features in iOS 18 to help you better manage your battery and ensure you're always using the best possible charging speed.

Extended charging limits

With iOS 18, you have more control over your iPhone's charging limits. Gone are the days when you could only set a charging limit of 80 %. Now Apple offers more detailed options that allow you to set charging limits of 85 %, 90 %, and 95 %. You can find these new options in the Settings app under the "Battery" menu item in the "Charging" section. However, they are only available for iPhone 15 models.

Why are loading limits important?

Setting charging limits can extend the life of your battery. By preventing your battery from constantly charging to 100%, you reduce wear and tear and can improve overall performance and lifespan. These new settings give you more flexibility and control over how your device charges.

Slow charger warnings

Another useful feature in iOS 18 is the slow charger warning. This feature helps you avoid inefficient charging and ensure that you always use a charger that charges your iPhone quickly and safely.

How the warning works

To check if you're using a slow charger, open the Settings app and go to the Battery menu item. There you'll find a battery level graph that gives you information about your device's current charge level and charging speed. If you're using a slow charger, a warning message will appear and the graph will update with a new orange color indicating the slow charging speed.

What loading speed is considered slow?

Apple has not yet provided any specifics about what charging speed triggers the "Slow Charger" message. More information is expected to be released in a support document when iOS 18 is officially available in the fall.

Preparing for iOS 18

The introduction of iOS 18 and its new charging monitoring features shows how committed Apple is to continually improving the user experience and maximizing the efficiency of its devices. By taking advantage of the new charging limits and making sure you always use a suitable charger, you can extend the life of your iPhone battery while ensuring optimal performance.
