Apple has shared a glimpse of the latest features in iOS 17 as part of WWDC 2023 (Worldwide Developers Conference). In addition to the exciting highlights like NameDrop and Live Voicemail, some significant security and privacy features were also introduced. This article will highlight five important iOS 17 security features for your iPhone that will be available later this year.

The security and privacy of users is of utmost importance to Apple, so each new version of iOS continually introduces improved security features to effectively combat the threats of the modern online world. iOS 17 continues this trend and offers a number of new features that further strengthen the security of your iPhone. Below, five of these features are explained in detail.

Lock private windows in Safari with Face ID

By integrating Face ID, iOS 17 enables an additional layer of security for private browsing in Safari. You can now enable the "Require Face ID to unlock private browsing" option to protect your tabs. Every time Safari is closed or the iPhone is locked, Face ID will be required to access the private windows. This feature is also available in macOS Sonoma and offers similar security through password or Touch ID verification.

Better tracking protection in iOS 17

Apple continues its fight against tracking by offering "better protection" against tracking parameters in web links in Safari. iOS 17 automatically detects such URLs in Safari, Mail, and Messages and removes the tracking part in real time. You can enable this feature for all browsing or just for private browsing to better protect your online activity from prying eyes.

Automatically delete verification codes

iOS 17 simplifies the hassle of deleting verification codes in messages and emails. After you insert a verification code using AutoFill, iOS 17 automatically deletes it. This feature is especially useful when services use predictable verification codes. While this is more of a convenience than a security feature, it makes it easier for users to deal with verification codes in their everyday lives.

New privacy settings for photos

With new privacy settings for photos, iOS 17 allows granular control over which apps have access to your photo library. Apps that you've granted access to for six months or more will now ask you if you want to keep them full access or restrict access. By restricting access, you can decide for yourself which pictures or videos you want to share with a specific app without giving the app full access to your entire photo library.

Automatically check text into messages

A completely new safety feature in iOS 17 is "Check In" in the Messages app. This feature allows you to automatically notify friends or family members via SMS when you reach a specific destination. In addition, Check In can also notify your selected contacts if it detects that you are not on the way to your destination. This feature provides additional security and ensures that you have assistance in case of an emergency.

iOS 17 security features in focus

iOS 17 brings a variety of new security features to your iPhone. From using Face ID to protect private windows in Safari to improved tracking protection and automatically deleting verification codes, iOS 17 offers numerous ways to strengthen the security and privacy of your iPhone. With the new privacy settings for photos and the function for automatically checking in text in messages, Apple continues its efforts to comprehensively protect iPhone users. With iOS 17, users can better control their privacy and feel safer while using their iPhone. Are you looking for new accessories?
