Alanya, Turkey - April 26, 2022: Man hand holding iPhone 13 with social networking service iMessage on the screen. iPhone 13 was created and developed by the Apple inc.

With the launch of iOS 17.2 beta, Apple is bringing a significant security feature to iMessage that enables contact verification. This new feature promises users more security when communicating and is part of Apple's efforts to protect user privacy.

iMessage Contact Key Verification is a response to growing concerns about the security and privacy of personal information. Apple has a history of being committed to privacy and security, and this new feature is another step in that direction. Contact Key Verification provides users with the assurance that they are actually communicating with the people they are trying to reach, creating a higher level of trust.

How does contact key verification work?

iMessage contact key verification occurs in three steps. First, it uses Key Transparency to automatically verify that the iMessage key distribution service is returning device keys stored on a verifiable and auditable card. This ensures that contacts are verified to confirm the identity of the person on the other side of the message. Once a user has enabled contact key verification, potential verification errors will be displayed directly in the iMessage conversation transcript and in Apple ID settings. This allows users to take immediate action if there is a verification issue.

iOS 17.2 Beta: Apple's commitment to privacy and security

For situations where even tighter security measures are required, iMessage Contact Key Verification provides the option for in-person verification. This can be done either over FaceTime or another secure call to ensure communications are conducted with the highest level of security. It's also worth noting that users have the option to create or edit contacts and save a public key to enable Contact Key Verification with specific people. To test iMessage Contact Key Verification, all devices connected to a user's iCloud account must be updated to iOS 17.2 beta, macOS 17.2 beta, or watchOS 17.2 beta. Alternatively, users can sign out of iMessage on those devices to enable Contact Key Verification.

A look into the future of digital communication

The introduction of iMessage contact key verification in iOS 17.2 beta underscores Apple's ongoing efforts to ensure the security and privacy of its users. This new feature provides an additional layer of security for iMessage users and builds trust in communications. This measure is expected to be welcomed by many users and further strengthen privacy in digital communications. Are you looking for new accessories?
