Apple today released a new developer tool that can force devices with 5G support and running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 to prefer 5G over a WiFi connection.
Apple has released a new tool for developers that forces devices to use a 5G connection instead of a WiFi connection. This can be beneficial, for example, in the case of insecure or slower WiFi networks. It requires 5G-capable devices running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later. writes Apple:
iOS 15 & iPadOS 15: Devices can prioritize 5G connection
5G devices running iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 can automatically prefer a 5G connection over Wi-Fi when Wi-Fi networks you occasionally visit are slow, or when you're connected to unencrypted or insecure Wi-Fi networks. Install the "5G Preferred Over WiFi" profile ("Profile") on devices running iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 Beta 4 or later to significantly increase the likelihood that 5G connections will be preferred over Wi-Fi connections and ensure your network path logic is optimized for situations where 5G is preferred.
This means that if developers want to prioritize 5G usage on their devices, they can do so starting with the fourth beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. In iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Apple has already added a new feature that causes 5G devices to automatically prioritize 5G when it offers a better connection than WiFi, so this developer tool should optimize this ability even further.
