Apple released the second beta of iOS 14.7 to developers yesterday. While bugs and other strange issues are fairly common in beta versions, they can sometimes render the device nearly unusable. According to some reports, the current beta appears to be causing a "SIM Failure" error for iPhone users.
Based on some reports on Twitter, there seems to be a widespread error in the second beta version of iOS 14.7, which results in a "SIM Failure" message immediately after installing the update. In addition to the error message, users are unable to make or receive calls or use cellular data on their iPhone after the update. Based on the reports we've read so far, the bug appears to primarily affect iPhone users with an eSIM instead of the regular, physical SIM.
iOS 14.7: Second beta is not recommended
It is not known what causes the error. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a workaround for this problem. If you are currently running the first beta, you should stick with this version for now. If you have already downloaded the second beta but have not yet installed it, you can proceed as follows:
- Open the Settings app
- Go to General
- Tap iPhone Storage
- Find iOS 14.7 Beta 2 in the list and tap on it
- Select “Delete Update”
