Apple released the security update iOS 14.4.1 for all users almost two weeks ago. Now the company has stopped signing iOS 14.4.

If Apple stops signing an iOS version, this means that users are no longer able to upgrade to the previous version via PC or Mac. Like other iOS updates, iOS 14.4.1 also brings a number of security improvements by fixing various vulnerabilities. Such security gaps make devices vulnerable and also enable jailbreaking. For this reason, Apple will stop signing older iOS versions in a timely manner. 

iOS 14.4.1: An important security update

The March 8th published According to Apple, the update fixes a vulnerability in WebKit, the browser engine used by Safari and third-party browsers on iOS. On Apple's security website is called it:

  • Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)
  • Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution
  • Description: A memory corruption issue was fixed with improved validation.
  • CVE-2021-1844: Clément Lecigne from Google's Threat Analysis Group, Alison Huffman from Microsoft Browser Vulnerability Research

According to Apple, the vulnerability can lead to malicious code being executed via web content. Previously, iOS 14.4 was released in January with changes to the camera app, bug fixes for keyboard input delays, and new Apple Watch Unity watch faces. iOS 14.4 update description

iOS 14.4 includes the following improvements for your iPhone:

  • The camera recognizes smaller QR codes.
  • Bluetooth devices can be classified using an option in Settings to correctly identify headphones for audio notifications.
  • You will receive a notification if your iPhone camera cannot be verified as the original camera of an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max.

This version also fixes the following issues:

  • Image artifacts may appear in HDR photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro.
  • The Fitness widget may not display updated activity data.
  • Keyboard input may be delayed and suggestions may not be displayed.
  • The keyboard in Messages may appear in the wrong language.
  • Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent you from answering phone calls from the lock screen.
