iOS 12.3: That's it, no turning back

After iOS 12.3 was recently released, Apple today officially stopped signing iOS 12.2, meaning users can no longer go back to the previous version.

Apple usually stops signing older versions of iOS just a few weeks after an update is released - iOS 12.3 was rolled out on May 13th. When Apple stops signing an iOS version, this means that users are no longer able to upgrade to the previous version via iTunes. With this step, Apple wants to encourage users to update the software and prevent jailbreaks, among other things.

Apple TV Channels

The most important new feature in iOS 12.3 is the updated TV app. Apple TV Channels was developed to bring together numerous channels. Consumers should be able to subscribe to TV packages from third-party providers as needed - this also includes Apple's own content. The Apple TV Channels feature is considered perfect for those who don't want a complete program package.

Apple is working with companies like Showtime, HBO, Epix, CBS All Access and others. Basically, each of these services can be subscribed to directly in the Apple TV application - your own iTunes account is used for billing. The content is also played directly in the new TV app - unlike third-party applications. Within the TV app, there are several categories for browsing content. On the iPhone, the bottom part has been reduced to "Watch Now", "Library" and "Search". Similar changes to the menu have also been made on the Apple TV. Apple is relying on machine learning with the new TV app. A new section highlights various films and TV shows that the user might be interested in - based on what the user has seen in the past. Over 150 different services have already been integrated into the TV app, including Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.
