FCC documents reveal redesigned Apple MagSafe charger

Apple MagSafe charger

Frankfurt, Germany - November 13th 2020: A German photographer bought the new iPhone 12 Pro Max with MagSafe accessories as the charger, taking pictures of the unboxing.

Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone 13 series in about a week. Interestingly, new FCC documents have now surfaced revealing a revised version of the MagSafe charger.

As by Dave Zatz discovered, the new MagSafe charger that was added to the FCC database on Monday is model A2548, while the current version of the MagSafe charger that was introduced with the iPhone 12 is called A2140. The application was submitted by Apple to the FCC on August 13, 2021, less than a month ago. Based on the documentation we cannot see what changes have been made to the new version. Apple sometimes updates its accessories with new part numbers because it makes small changes that in some cases are not even noticeable. Nevertheless, some details are curious.

iPhone 13: Apple could adapt MagSafe charger

The FCC has tested the new MagSafe charger with eight different iPhone models, which is where things get interesting. The document describes iPhone models A2341, A2172, A2176 and A2342 as "legacy phones," meaning all iPhone 12 models. At the same time, the charger was also tested with four unidentified "New Phone" devices, which may be the four new iPhone 13 models. As a reminder, it was already rumored in July that the iPhone 13 will have a stronger arrangement of magnets for the MagSafe technology. This could mean that we will see some kind of updated MagSafe accessory that uses the new magnets from the iPhone 13 models. Of course, we will see whether this all happens in the next few days and weeks. (Photo by ms_pics_and_more / Bigstockphoto)
