The coronavirus has had a major impact on general production in China. While mass production of new products is struggling to get started, existing devices are slowly becoming scarce - including the iPhone 11.

A new New York Times According to reports, iPhone 11 models are slowly becoming scarce. Various stores and shipping companies are reporting that the waiting time for the colorful iPhone models is increasing. One of the biggest problems is that retailers have no idea when they will receive new deliveries. As the coronavirus outbreak continues to affect Apple's supply chain and transport from mainland China to the United States, iPhone 11 shipments are said to have shrunk - explains the Times. But there also seem to be difficulties here in Germany. For example, anyone who orders any iPhone 11 model from Apple online can currently expect to wait about a week.

Will retail be sacrificed in favor of online shipping?

It does not seem to be 100 percent clear whether the whole thing is really only due to the production chain. Retailers have told the Times that they believe Apple is deliberately holding back deliveries in order to be able to handle online shipping at the expense of retailers. This assumption cannot be completely ruled out. Back in February, it was reported that Apple was preferring to supply its own stores over third-party suppliers - a legitimate approach. But as already mentioned above, Apple's online shipping is also gradually suffering. It remains unclear whether the worst is now over. While iPhone production is slowly picking up, various component manufacturers are having to make further closures For example, Apple's supplier of camera modules was temporarily closed. However, it is not known whether LG Innotek has since resumed production. (Photo by Eremin / Bigstockphoto)
