Many Sparkasse customers and iPhone users are still waiting for the introduction of Apple Pay – but so far in vain. Now the financial institution is back.
At the beginning of the week, Sparkasse updated the terms of use for Apple Pay - but the go-ahead is still missing. Now Sparkasse has spoken out via its official Twitter account. It says:
“The savings banks will introduce Apple Pay in Germany later this year and offer customers this simple, secure and confidential payment method.”
According to reports, Sparkasse is sticking to its plans and introducing Apple Pay this year. But which cards will be supported? The Sparkasse social media team has also commented on this.
“Credit cards (Mastercard, VISA) will be supported at the start of this year, and the savings banks are preparing the Girocard for 2020.”
This means that credit card holders will be able to benefit from Apple Pay straight away, while Girocard users will have to continue to be patient. The plans for Girocard support from 2020 are by no means new – they were already announced by Apple Pay boss Jennifer Baily to the German press agency at the end of June. confirmed.
But when exactly will Apple Pay launch? This question remains unanswered. It is suspected that the corresponding update for the Sparkasse application could be released as early as the beginning of November - but this rumor should be treated with extreme skepticism. In addition to the Sparkasse, the Volksbanken are also in the final preparations - they also want to introduce Apple Pay this year. (Image: Sparkasse)
