As part of the “Hi, Speed” event, Apple introduced a new feature called “Intercom” that works on all Apple devices, in addition to the iPhone, HomePod mini and MagSafe charger.
The “Intercom” feature is intended to communication between all Apple devices within a household – according to Apple. The company explained:
Intercom: Something Only Apple Can Do
We designed Intercom to also work with iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and even CarPlay, something only Apple can do. Users get a home intercom system that goes with them everywhere. The message automatically plays on HomePod speakers throughout the house and a notification appears on family members' personal devices. Intercom messages also play on AirPods.
So – Intercom provides a quick and easy way for family members to connect with each other at home. One person can send an intercom message from one HomePod to another – whether in another room, a specific zone, or multiple rooms throughout the house – and the voice will automatically play on the designated HomePod speaker.
