Apple has made some changes to the App Store Review Guidelines. In addition to new requirements related to iOS 13, the rules for push notifications have also been revised.
With the recent revision of the App Store Review Guidelines, Apple aims to ensure continued compatibility of apps with iPhone and iPad models. Features like "Sign in with Apple" are also finally included. However, as part of these adjustments, the regulations regarding push notifications have also been revised. Until now, app developers were not permitted to use them for advertising purposes. But many did exactly that, and Apple has so far done nothing to stop them. The change now stipulates that push notifications for advertising purposes will be permitted in the future – but under one condition.
Stricter Controls on Dating & Fortune Telling
The user must explicitly allow this. This means that in the future, in addition to traditional push notifications, users will also be able to choose those for advertising purposes. Accordingly, developers must adapt their apps and offer an opt-in or opt-out option. At the same time, Apple confirmed stricter controls for apps in the "dating" and "fortune-telling" categories. The company explained:
We will reject these applications if they do not provide a unique, high-quality experience.
