Apple Arcade: Developers comment on new service

Cupertino has significantly increased its investment in games with the announcement of the new Apple Arcade service. While details of the service are still scarce, developers are optimistic about the future games subscription.

The Verge magazine spoke to nearly a dozen developers about Apple Arcade - all of them reacted cautiously but optimistically to the topic. Developer Zach Gage said it was encouraging to see Apple strive for higher quality games in the App Store while also focusing on indie development. Developer Sean Krankel from the Night School Study also expressed positive views on the topic. He thinks that the number of subscriptions will skyrocket. At the same time, there are also game developers who are still rather skeptical about the whole thing.

No sale as a single app

Individual titles available in the Apple Arcade bundle will only be accessible to subscribers - this could lead to problems later - according to the concerns of individual developers. The VentureBeat platform explains the situation. Because Apple will contribute to the development costs and work itself, these games can only be played with a valid subscription. These titles will not be sold as a single app - there will also be no advertising or in-app purchases - this is intended to emphasize the attractiveness. Apple Arcade will launch in autumn this year with over 100 exclusive games. The service will be available in over 150 countries.
