The App Store has released much to talk about Users had to delete and re-download some of their apps in order to run them.
It started on Saturday with WhatsApp and Facebook and spread to apps like YouTube, TikTok, Amazon, and more. When attempting to open the app, it crashed and could no longer run. The message "This app is no longer shared with you" then appeared. Only after deleting and reinstalling the affected app was the problem resolved. The phenomenon was primarily observed in users with Family Sharing enabled – but not in everyone. Interestingly, some solo users were also affected.
Expired certificate as cause?
Now users are reporting hundreds of pending app updatesHowever, the updates are not new, but rather versions of previously released versions. In many cases, the dates listed go back as far as ten days. Apple has not published a statement on this. However, it is suspected that the phenomenon is related to the "This app is no longer shared with you" issue. It cannot be ruled out that the cause is an expired certificate or other credential that allows the sharing of applications. App updates are necessary to update these. This could therefore explain the unusually high number of updates. (Photo by PixieMe / Bigstockphoto)
