Until now, not all of Apple's own applications could be rated in the App Store. This is now changing. From now on, users can rate apps such as Maps, Podcasts, Mail and more.
iPhone and iPad users can now rate Apple's own applications, including pre-installed apps, in the App Store. However, no Apple app currently has a perfect five-star rating. At the time of writing, even the Translate app is at the bottom with 2.3 stars. By opening up the apps to ratings and reviews, Apple and its in-house teams are now better able to receive more direct feedback for individual apps on iPhone and iPad.

In light of the recent legal disputes in the App Store, this move also undermines possible criticism from Apple's opponents, who may have previously argued that Apple was acting anti-competitively by withholding ratings and reviews for pre-installed apps. Apple's pre-installed apps such as Mail, Podcasts and Maps are not regularly updated in the App Store like other apps, but receive their most important updates bundled with new iOS versions. Of course, Apple refines and optimizes all of its own apps with every minor update for iOS and iPadOS. But significant changes or innovations are more likely to be expected in major iOS updates.
