Amazon Luna: Cloud gaming on iPhone and Co.

Amazon has unveiled new Echo products and also a new cloud gaming service called “Luna” that will be available later this year. Interestingly, the company promises support for Windows, Mac, Fire TV, Android devices and even iPhone and iPad.

Luna comes with over 100 available games appear, including titles such as Resident Evil 7, Control, Panzer Dragoon, A Plague Tale: Innocence and The Surge 2, with more titles to come in the future. Thanks to a new partnership with Ubisoft, Luna subscribers will also have optional access to a special range featuring Assassins Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6 and Immortals Fenyx Rising.

The games can be accessed at up to 4K resolution at 60fps for selected titles on the Luna platform. The platform itself is run entirely on AWS (Amazon Web Services). According to Amazon, Luna will be available for Windows, macOS, Android and even iOS. But many are now asking how this will all fit in with Apple's App Store guidelines. The answer is a web app.

However, concrete details are currently unknown. As a reminder: Apple recently adjusted the App Store guidelines to enable cloud gaming. But the catch is that providers must provide all games as a single app and are not allowed to combine them into one application. Read more hereThere is, however, one exception. Apple has already admitted that providers of such cloud gaming services may also switch to web applications, which generally offer fewer functions than native apps. If the company decides to use the web app as announced, the implementation will remain exciting. After all, web applications do not have access to controls and sensors, as is the case with installed apps. Amazon Luna will be available at an introductory price of $5.99 per month.
