When people in Germany think of Apple products, Gravis inevitably comes to mind. But this era is now coming to an end. After almost four decades of successful business, the Freenet Group, to which Gravis belongs, has announced that sales will cease on June 15, 2024.

Since its founding, Gravis has established itself as one of Apple's leading suppliers and partners in Germany. The news of the store closures has therefore come as a surprise and a source of regret to many customers and employees.

impact on customers

With the announcement The store closure will mark the beginning of a transition period for customers. All products, including Apple hardware, will be sold until June 15, 2024. Customers who still have vouchers should redeem them by this date, as they will no longer be valid after this date. It is equally important to note for those who may still want to order repairs from Gravis: Such orders will only be accepted until May 15. The company guarantees that all repair and warranty claims submitted before this date will be properly processed, even if the stores are already closed.

situation of the employees

The closure of Gravis also affects numerous employees who have worked for the company for years. Management and the works council have drawn up a social plan to make the transition phase as smooth as possible for the employees affected. This plan includes severance payments based on length of service and other social factors in order to support employees financially and make the transition to new employment easier for them.

Gravis: Statement from the Board of Directors

Christoph Vilanek, CEO of Freenet AG, commented on the closure of Gravis:

It was not an easy decision to close Gravis. Our employees are the heart of the company and have contributed significantly to its success through their dedication and performance. We feel a great responsibility to treat them fairly and have therefore drawn up a comprehensive social plan.

The closure of Gravis symbolizes not only the end of a business but also the end of an era in German electronics retail. For customers and employees, this change brings challenges but also opportunities. It is a significant moment that calls on everyone involved to reflect and act. (Image: Freenet Group)
