Apple is planning the next models in its Apple Watch series – and many are eagerly awaiting information about the upcoming versions. After years of relatively minor updates and recently declining sales, Apple is under pressure. The new models could therefore bring more changes than we've been used to in recent years. If you're considering a new Apple Watch or just want to stay up to date, here's the most important information about the Apple Watch SE 3, the Apple Watch Series 11, and the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
The situation is serious: Apple was recently overtaken by Xiaomi as the world's leading wearables provider. Apple Watch sales have been declining for the second year in a row. This means Apple needs to change something to regain market share. 2025 is a symbolic year for this—it marks the tenth anniversary of the release of the first Apple Watch. Even though Apple missed the opportunity to launch a special anniversary model in 2024, there's a good chance it will unveil new devices in September that will bring a breath of fresh air. Three models are in focus.
Apple Watch SE 3 – Entry-level watch with update potential
The Apple Watch SE 2 launched in 2022. Little has changed with this model since then. The new Apple Watch SE 3 is expected in September 2025. The watch is expected to retain the tried-and-tested design but be upgraded internally. According to current information, Apple is not planning a hard plastic case, as previously speculated. Instead, it will likely stick with the familiar aluminum. A design change with larger cases (from the current 40/44 mm to 42/46 mm) is possible, although Apple could also simply reduce the screen bezels to offer more display space while maintaining the same size.

Performance is important for many: A new SiP (System in Package) is expected, presumably the same chip as in the upcoming Apple Watch Series 11. This would give the SE 3 a significant speed boost compared to the current S8 chip. As for price, there are no clear indications of changes. There were rumors of cheaper models, but these became less likely with the discontinuation of the hard plastic case. It is more likely that the SE 3 will cost about the same as the SE 2 – perhaps a bit more. Should Apple decide to complement the SE series with a more expensive "Apple Watch Series 11e", price differentiation would also be possible.
Apple Watch Series 11 – Focus on AI and Software
The Apple Watch Series 11 is also expected in September. It will bring some exciting innovations, though not necessarily in terms of design. Apple is unlikely to introduce larger cases, as the current 42/46 mm already exceeds the limits for many users. However, a slightly larger display through narrower bezels is possible. The most important advancement is on the inside: In addition to a new S11 chip, the focus is on software. Apple plans to equip the watch with an AI-powered health coach. This will provide personalized health recommendations based on all the data collected (from the watch itself, but also from the iPhone or other sources). The goal: fewer standard notifications and more personalized alerts.

Additionally, a new watchOS will be introduced, with a visual design similar to visionOS—just like the next iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. This will provide a more modern user interface, aligned with Apple's future design line. The price is also expected to be in line with the current models. The Series 10 currently starts at €449.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 – Technology for extreme users
The Apple Watch Ultra is aimed at users with particularly high demands – and this will remain the case with the third generation. No new Ultra was introduced in 2024, only a new color version of the Ultra 2. This year, that could change. The Ultra 3 is expected to continue to have a titanium case. No major design changes are planned. Instead, Apple is focusing on new features: The watch will be 5G-capable and will receive high blood pressure detection. Similar to body temperature or sleep apnea measurements, there is no real-time data here, but rather trend analyses that warn you of any abnormalities.

Another feature currently under development is satellite communication, independent of the cellular network. This would be particularly interesting for users who often find themselves outside of reception range—for example, when mountaineering, hiking, or traveling to remote regions. The price is unlikely to change. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 currently costs €899, and since Apple wants to maintain its margin, neither a price drop nor an increase is very likely.

New Apple Watch models: No revolution, but real progress
Apple is preparing for a fresh start in the wearable segment this year. The Apple Watch SE 3, Series 11, and Ultra 3 clearly show where things are headed: more intelligence through software, slightly modernized hardware, but no radical overhaul. Apple remains true to itself but wants to make up for lost ground. If you're currently considering whether to get a new Apple Watch, it's worth waiting until fall. The new models promise real improvements—especially in the user experience. September 2025 will be an exciting month for Apple fans. Time for fresh accessories?
