STRASBOURG, FRANCE - SEP 21, 2018: Apple Store with presentation for sale of the new latest gold edition Apple Computers Watch Series 4 wearable device

In a week, Apple will present not only new hardware products but also the corresponding software. Anyone who thought they knew everything that was coming up is mistaken - at least that's what a new report claims.

The US blog 9to5mac claims to have heard about a new feature that Apple plans to present next week during the keynote. It's a new sleep analysis that will be introduced for the Apple Watch in watchOS 6. The information comes directly from Cupertino - according to 9to5mac. That Apple is working on a sleep tracking feature for the Apple Watch has been clear since the acquisition of Beddit, a manufacturer of sleep monitoring systems. While some observers expected the introduction of such a feature for the popular smartwatch next year, Apple will probably delight us with it this fall. According to insiders, Apple's sleep monitoring will not require any additional accessories - the Apple Watch's sensors would be completely sufficient. The new feature is known internally under the code name "Burrito" and is referred to as "Time in Bed Tracking." It allows the user to wear their Apple Watch in bed and measure their sleep at the same time. Anyone who owns multiple Apple Watch models must assign the sleep analysis to a specific device. While the wearer sleeps, the Apple Watch records sleep quality using its built-in sensors. The system also records the user's movements, ambient noise, and heart rate. The stored data is then made available in the Health app on the iPhone and in a new application called "Sleep" for the Apple Watch.

Backward compatibility still unclear

Since many users charge their Apple Watch at night, Apple has developed a solution to the problem. The watch is designed to remind the wearer to charge their Apple Watch before going to bed so that they can survive the night. If the user wakes up before the alarm is triggered, it is automatically deactivated. The alarm is usually only played on the Apple Watch itself - but if the wearer does not respond, the iPhone is available as a backup. Users will also have the option to select a silent alarm. In this case, the Apple Watch would only vibrate.

The Do Not Disturb feature also activates automatically when using sleep tracking. There will also be a new complication to match it. It remains unclear whether the new feature will be available for everyone in watchOS 6. Apple Watch models available or will only be reserved for the new generation. However, given the fact that users of several Watch models have to select a fixed device for the feature, it can be assumed that the function will only be linked to the new operating system watchOS 6 and therefore does not require any new hardware.
