With watchOS 6, the Apple Watch becomes even more independent – users can manage the popular smartwatch in more areas without an iPhone.
watchOS 6 brings many useful features to the Apple Watch, which mean greater independence from the iPhone. In the future, users will be able to download apps to the Apple Watch as they wish, and these can also be removed at any time, without the iPhone being paired. The reason for this is the introduction of a separate app store for the popular wearable. This will be directly accessible from your Apple Watch under watchOS 6, just like you know it from iOS. We will now explain how you can use it. While older Apple Watch operating systems required apps to be downloaded via the iPhone, this step can now be skipped and done directly from the watch itself. An active internet connection is of course required to use the feature. This can be done via the integrated eSim - if available and activated - or via a WiFi connection or a paired iPhone.
How to download apps to your Apple Watch under watchOS 6
Open the App Store on your Apple Watch – you'll find it in the Home section next to all the other apps. Alternatively, you can ask Siri for help. You can now use the search function if you're looking for a specific app or browse the applications listed below – you can do this by swiping or using the Digital Crown. If you click on the search directly, individual categories will be listed. Tapping the preview will take you to the app description. Once you've found what you're looking for, you can download the app directly to your Apple Watch using the "Download" field. The first time you download it, your Apple Watch will ask you for your Apple ID password – your iPhone's keyboard is a good option for this – it's the easiest way. To open it, just tap the small keyboard icon on the watch display – the iPhone should be unlocked. To confirm the download, double-tap the side button on the Apple Watch.
How to delete apps under watchOS 6
Deleting apps can also be done directly from the Apple Watch, similar to the iPhone's principle. The user must hold down an app on the home screen until the so-called "wiggle mode" is activated. A small "X" then appears above each app; a tap makes the respective app disappear. Of course, deleted apps can be re-downloaded at any time via the integrated App Store. The option to delete apps allows users to create a bit more storage space and also provides a better overview of all existing applications.
