A new clue has surfaced in Apple's codebase, sparking speculation about an upcoming audio product. A previously unknown Bluetooth ID was discovered that cannot be associated with any current Apple or Beats device. The ID could be the first technical signal for new AirPods or another headset from the Beats portfolio.
Apple regularly updates its software and the device synchronization features it includes. A new identifier has appeared in the current version: Bluetooth ID 8239. Such identifiers are used to identify specific devices—for example, the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C have ID 8228 (hexadecimal 0x2024). The new code entry includes all known Apple audio products, but also lists this new ID. This is unusual because Apple doesn't add IDs for no reason.
New Bluetooth ID causes speculation
The new ID 8239 is not associated with any known AirPods or Beats model. That alone would be striking, but the timing also fits with current rumors: Apple is said to be working on the AirPods Pro 3. It's possible that this upcoming model has been given the new Bluetooth identifier. According to reports, the AirPods Pro 3 could be released as early as 2025. Technical and functional improvements are expected. Speculation includes:
- a new housing design
- improved audio quality
- updated active noise cancellation (ANC)
- new health functions such as heart rate measurement
So far, there's no official confirmation from Apple. The codebase itself doesn't reveal any further details about the device behind ID 8239—only that it exists (via MacRumors ).
Alternative explanation: New Beats model possible
It's also possible that the new identifier belongs to a product from the Beats line. Apple continues to sell Beats headphones under its own brand, and previous models such as the Beats Fit Pro or Beats Studio Buds also had their own IDs. However, there are currently no rumors of specific new Beats products with an imminent release date. Because no further description is included in the code, and no additional files or images have surfaced, the origin of the device remains unclear.
AirPods Pro 3 or new Beats?
Apple has added a new Bluetooth ID to its codebase. It's the number 8239, which isn't assigned to any previous AirPods or Beats model. There are two plausible possibilities: either the AirPods Pro 3 are about to be released, or Apple is working on a new Beats product. Which option is correct isn't yet clear. However, the discovery confirms that a new audio product is in the works – most likely for 2025. (Image: Shutterstock / Mohd Syis Zulkipli)
