New 16-inch MacBook Pro to be released in fall

According to a new rumor, Apple is planning to update some MacBook models - and a completely new professional notebook is also set to be released.

IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin claims to have learned that Apple is planning to update the MacBook Air and 13.3-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar. Both models are to be equipped with new processors. The MacBook Air was last revised in October 2018. The entry-level model received the long-awaited Retina display, an 8th generation Intel Core processor, the butterfly keyboard, a larger trackpad, Touch ID, Thunderbolt 3 ports, new color options and much more. In addition to updating the existing devices, Apple is said to be planning to present a completely new MacBook Pro model - according to Lin. According to the analyst, we will see a 16-inch MacBook Pro with a new design this fall - the statement thus supports earlier reports that Apple has a completely new notebook in the works.

LCD instead of OLED?

Lin believes the 16-inch screen will be an LCD supplied by LG Display with a resolution of 3,072 × 1,920 pixels, as detailed in the latest IHS Emerging PC Market Tracker report published by Forbes. For comparison, the 15-inch MacBook Pro has a resolution of 2,880 × 1,800 pixels. “We expect Apple to release a new product in September, unless there are any unexpected development issues” – says Jeff Lin. The Korean website The Elec recently reported that Samsung has spoken to Apple about supplying OLED panels for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. If the IHS Markit report is correct, the new professional notebook will have an LCD instead.

A 16-inch notebook was first predicted by the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in February this year. However, Kuo did not mention any specifications - he also left the display technology uncommented. Only recently, seven new MacBook models were announced in the EEC database discovered – this actually confirms an imminent introduction of new MacBook models. However, whether this will be the case in September, as Lin claims, remains doubtful. Apple has never introduced new Macs as part of its annual iPhone show in September. Instead, the company always chose the month of October. Apple Shop on Amazon – everything your apple heart desires. (Photo by Unsplash)
