As expected, Apple presented the new operating system iOS 13 for iPhone and iPod touch at WWDC 2019. It is available in black on request and brings with it a whole range of new features.
By far the most exciting operating system is iOS 13. The new iPhone and iPod touch operating system appears dark for the first time - the long-awaited dark mode will be available system-wide. iOS 13 will introduce fundamental performance and system improvements. Face ID should work around 30 percent faster and apps will load twice as fast. Future app updates will be around 60 percent smaller under iOS 13. Typing on the iPhone can be started even faster in the future. A simple swipe gesture is enough to call up the so-called QuickPath keyboard. Furthermore, the Mail application will be improved with additional text formatting options and the Notes app can share entire folders for the first time.
The Music app supports an improved karaoke function - lyrics can be displayed synchronously with the song if desired. Siri is set to have a much more natural voice in iOS 13. Of course, Apple Maps cannot be left out. According to Apple, the map application will have a detailed Street View in the USA by the end of 2019. This will also be introduced in selected European countries in early 2020.
Data Protection & HomeKit
Apple is, of course, improving data protection in iOS 13. Apple plans to significantly curb background tracking by third-party apps. To this end, it's introducing a new "Sign in with Apple" feature, intended to compete with the Google and Facebook solutions. HomeKit hasn't been forgotten either. Previous leaks have already predicted some new features. Users will have access to the "HomeKit Secure Video" feature in the future. Video recordings will be encrypted and stored in the iCloud. HomeKit can also be used to control the home router. According to Apple, this feature can also be considered an additional firewall.
Memojis for everyone and new portrait effects
With iOS 13, all iPhone users will have access to Memojis - these can even be used as stickers. The camera has also been further optimized. There will be new options for the existing portrait effects. There will also be new options for editing photos and videos. A revised zoom mode and improved navigation of large photo libraries are the highlights.
AirPods and HomePod as well as CarPlay are upgraded
Last but not least, there are also new features for the AirPods, the HomePod, and CarPlay. With the AirPods, users will be able to have messages read aloud and compose a reply without any additional commands. The "Audio Sharing" feature allows you to share a song playing with friends. For the first time, the HomePod will have access to radio stations and can play songs via Handoff. CarPlay will adapt to larger displays in the future and will have a new user interface. iOS 13 will be available to all users this fall. (Image: Apple)
