New benchmark results of a possible new Mac with M2 Max processor have emerged, but do not show a dramatic improvement over the previous model.
The numbers on Geekbench relate refers to a device that calls itself a "Mac14.6." References to this Mac were first discovered in July 2022. However, it is unclear whether it is a MacBook Pro or another device such as a new Mac Studio. As the leaker As ShrimpApplePro found, the Geekbench data also contains details about the device's configuration. As reported, the device has 96 GB of RAM. That's more than a current MacBook Pro can offer but less than the Mac Studio.
When will Apple introduce new Mac models with M2 Max chip?
The CPU is referred to as the "Apple M2 Max," and the data shows it to be a 12-core processor clocked at 3.54 GHz. The single-core score is 1853, while the multi-core score is 13855. As a reminder, according to Geekbench, the M1 Max scores 1787 single-core and 12826 multi-core. This result—assuming it's not faked—indicates that the M2 Max may not offer much more performance than expected. The origin of the benchmark is unclear. Originally, it was claimed that a new MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro and M2 Max processor would launch before the end of 2022.
