According to a report from the UK, Tim Cook is keen for Apple to buy Manchester United, one of Britain's most famous and successful sports teams.
The British tabloid Daily Star reportedthat Apple is considering paying $6.9 billion for Premier League football club Manchester United. It is one of the most famous teams in the league and the place where David Beckham rose to fame. According to the newspaper, the current owners are the Glazers. Reportedly, the Glazers originally wanted $9.9 billion for the team but decided to sell to the highest bidder. Now, the newspaper claims that Apple is one of the companies that wants to discuss a possible deal to acquire the team. Reportedly, Tim Cook is keen to explore the possibilities that owning Manchester United would bring for Apple. It is said that he is in talks with the banks that will oversee the sale. The Daily Star further reports that Apple "could" finance the construction of a new stadium.
Will Manchester United join Apple's portfolio?
Manchester United's current stadium, Old Trafford, is in need of renovation, and the owners have been vacillating for some time between repairs and restoration or a completely new build. Neither Apple nor Manchester United's owners have commented on the matter, and the Daily Star hasn't provided any sources or names. Therefore, the whole thing should be viewed with skepticism. Such a purchase would be the first time Apple has acquired a sports team. The company already has a fictional team, "Ted Lasso." The company recently used its "Ted Lasso" characters to promote the World Cup. Apple TV+ also recently significantly expanded its soccer offerings, albeit through a deal with the US Major Soccer League rather than the British Premier League. So, the whole thing should remain exciting. (Photo by cm4k / Bigstockphoto)
