Apple is not only working on a foldable iPhone

Apple is not only working on a foldable iPhone

Apple is unlikely to launch a foldable iPhone until 2025 at the earliest. However, rumors say the company is also investigating foldable screens for a future MacBook Pro.

In a new report about foldable smartphones, Display Supply Chain Consultants has pushed back its expectations for an "iPhone Fold" device to 2025. Previously, DSCC assumed that an Apple phone with a foldable display could appear in 2023. DSCC has updated its timeline based on discussions with supply chain sources. According to the company, Apple "does not seem to be in a hurry to enter the foldable smartphone market, and it may even take longer than 2025." However, the display analysts have learned that Apple is now interested in developing some kind of foldable notebook in the 20-inch range.

Foldable iPhone: The MacBook Pro could also benefit from the folding technology

This size could create a new category for Apple and create a true dual-use product: a notebook with a full-size keyboard when unfolded and for use as a monitor when folded. It could also enable UHD/4K resolution or even higher resolution at this size. But the timeframe is probably later than 2025, it could be 2026 or 2027.

The DSCC, led by analyst Ross Young, has an excellent track record of providing accurate information about Apple's display plans. The firm has correctly predicted a number of display-related features in Apple's latest lineup. While Apple's foldable devices are still years away, they are "good news" for the entire foldable device space, according to the DSCC. (Photo by Eskymaks / Bigstockphoto)
