iPhone 13: Apple promises significantly longer battery life

During the iPhone 13 presentation, Apple particularly highlighted the battery life of the devices. The company stated that the iPhone 13 mini, for example, offers around 1.5 hours more usage time than its predecessor. Now the company has provided official data on battery capacities.

In an entry on the Chemtrec website, Apple has now released the official battery capacities for the iPhone 13 models published. As expected, these have increased significantly. As a reminder: A longer battery life is achieved when the chip works more efficiently and/or the battery itself is enlarged. In the case of the iPhone 13 models, both are likely to apply. Now for the actual data. Apple states the following:

  • The iPhone 13 mini has a battery with 9.57 watt hours. For comparison: The iPhone 12 mini has a battery with 8.57 watt hours.
  • The iPhone 13 has a battery with 12.41 watt hours. For comparison: The iPhone 12 has a battery with 10.78 watt hours.
  • The iPhone 13 Pro has a battery with 11.97 watt hours. For comparison: The iPhone 12 Pro has a battery with 10.78 watt hours.
  • The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a battery with 16.75 watt hours. For comparison: The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a battery with 14.13 watt hours.

But what exactly does that mean? According to Apple, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will allow 28 hours of video playback. The iPhone 13 mini, on the other hand, will allow 17 hours of video playback.

iPhone 13 models: Larger batteries mean more weight

As always, these figures should be treated with caution. In reality, things often turn out differently. Nevertheless, the new devices should offer at least one to two hours more battery life, regardless of what exactly you are doing. After all, people's usage behavior is individual. Whatever. However, the whole thing has a somewhat unpleasant side effect. The devices have become slightly heavier compared to their predecessors. The key data is as follows:

  • iPhone 13 mini: 140 grams – for comparison: iPhone 12 mini: 135 grams
  • iPhone 13: 173 grams – for comparison: iPhone 12: 164 grams
  • iPhone 13 Pro: 203 grams – for comparison: iPhone 12 Pro: 189 grams
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: 238 grams – for comparison: iPhone 12 Pro Max: 228 grams

However, this compromise should be worth it, after all, more battery life is a welcome feature. (Image: Apple)
