Now that the Find My Network program has officially launched, Chipolo has announced the launch of the new ONE Spot item tracker, one of the first that can be located via the Find My app.

The ONE Spot is designed to work exclusively with the Find My app working together and gives us a closer look at how third-party Find My accessories will work. Additionally, the product could give us a taste of how Apple's AirTags will work. Chipolo's ONE Spot is a simple, round, black pendant with a hole on the top to allow it to be attached to various devices. Design-wise, it's not too different from the AirTags, which are rumored to be small, white, and round - similar to a coin. The ONE Spot can be added in the Find My app under the "Items" tab.

Chipolo ONE Spot appears with replaceable battery

This area will allow the tracker to be tracked later. Users can attach the ONE Spot to any product, from keys to wallets to expensive devices like cameras and luggage. Chipolo describes the ONE Spot as waterproof and lightweight, features that AirTags are also said to have. The ONE Spot has a replaceable battery that should last up to twelve months. How this will all work with the AirTags is currently unknown. In the Find My app, the ONE Spot is located on a map, listing the last known location if it is out of range. Users will be able to play a sound to find a device that is nearby. The product can also be put into a lost mode.

Find My: Advanced encryption protects location

These functions are also said to be available on AirTags. In "Lost Mode," the "Find My Network," which consists of millions of iPhones, iPads, and Macs, can be used to locate the device and inform the owner of the device when it is found. If the ONE Spot is discovered by someone other than the owner, that person can use the Find My app on the iPhone to identify it and will be redirected to a website that offers a message and a phone number for contact purposes. According to Chipolo, the ONE Spot uses "advanced encryption" to ensure that no one else, including Apple and Chipolo, is able to view the tag's location. Incidentally, this level of security is required by Apple for all Find My accessories.

Interested parties are placed on the waiting list

The ONE Spot tags connect to an iPhone via Bluetooth. AirTags, on the other hand, should also be able to use the U1 chip - an advantage. The ultra-wideband support will enable more precise tracking than standard Bluetooth, especially if an object is lost nearby. Interestingly, third-party devices will also be able to use the U1 chip. According to Apple, a corresponding specification should be released in spring. The ONE Spot from Chipolo is not yet available. However, the tracker should be delivered in June.
