Anyone looking for a real Apple AirPower replacement will be disappointed. Hardly any charging mat comes close to the idea behind AirPower. But that could soon change!
Zagg – the parent company of Mophie – has announced at CES 2020 Bloomberg made an interesting statement. According to this, the company is working on a charging mat that has the capabilities of AirPower. According to initial information, this can charge several devices at the same time, without having to maintain a certain position - a freedom that Apple wanted to offer us with AirPower. However, it remains unclear whether the new charger can actually charge an iPhone, AirPods and an Apple Watch at the same time. If that is also possible, the new charging mat would be a real AirPower replacement.
Wireless charging with limitations
There are now plenty of Qi-based chargers. But they all have one thing in common - the charging positions are predetermined, otherwise there is a risk of overheating. Apple failed to solve this problem with AirPower. But Mophie could turn things in a different direction. When the new Mophie charger might actually debut remains to be seen. The company also did not comment on the design. But if you are looking for a real AirPower alternative in the meantime, you should take a closer look at the ZENS Liberty charging mat.
