Chiang Rai, Thailand: September 13, 2018 - Close-up image of Technician hands tried to remove, take of, change or replace Apple iPhone 6 battery degenerate or damage.

Last week, the rumor mill was heated up like never before. Now it's moving straight on. According to a new report, the iPhone 2020 models could have a larger battery.

The Korean website The Elec claims to have learned new information about the 2020 iPhone lineup. According to the report, the batteries of the devices could be slightly larger, as an important component has been made 50 percent smaller. This is the battery holder, which also serves as a protective module and prevents overcharging. This saving would allow the installation of a larger battery. According to The Elec, the new module will be supplied by Korea's ITM Semiconductor - the website cites an industry source.

Samsung is also supplied

In a separate report, The Elec claims that the new modules are already being delivered to Samsung. These are to be used in the upcoming Galaxy S11 smartphone. Since 5G technology generally consumes more energy, a further increase in battery size would be the right step. Whether this will actually be at the expense of the battery holder remains to be seen, of course. A total of four new iPhone models are expected in autumn 2020. These include a 5.4-inch, two 6.1-inch and a 6.7-inch iPhone. All four devices are to have an OLED screen - the differences can be found in the camera module, among other things.
